How to Write a Poem

Writing a poem can be an exciting and dynamic process,
But from the beginning you’re going to have to show that poem who the boss is.
You can’t just pile up words that rhyme.
You have to spend some time
Thinking about what those words mean.
You might start by describing something you’ve seen
And then go on to tell your readers how it made you feel
In words that make it seem really, you know, like, real.
And then you should probably use some sort of heightened language or poetic diction,
Whatever that is. Personally I think it’s a pious fiction.
As for rhythm, people don’t seem to demand it.
At any rate, I don’t care about it, because I don’t understand it.
