Speaking as the husband of an author in a genre with very broad readership and low barriers to entry (and which is therefor populated largely by folks who often have more time and money than talent and perseverance), I would not be surprised at all if this book already existed. For many aspiring authors, reading instructional works on how to write, watching videos on how best to structure one’s writing space, purchasing software to help one keep track of plot and characters, and attending conferences on building one’s ‘brand’ are what being an author is all about. Actually setting pen to paper or fingers to keyboard is a far second. And in very distant third is the very thought of sending a completed work to publishers who might nastily demand that changes be made to this perfect darling of a story.

This all means that, while publishing itself is a large and impressive industry, there is also a massive industry that exists not so much to actually publish the work of authors, but to help folks convince themselves that, if they have all the accoutrements of an author, they must then *be* an author. It follows then, that this para-publishing industry must have it’s own trade journals, instructional works, conferences, software salesmen, and any other booster needed by the ego of someone who has decided to convince themselves that they have a vocation to convince others that they are *authors*.
