SPEAKING OF ROBERT LUDLUM…

Here is an interesting observation: According to the omniscient Wikipedia, Robert Ludlum wrote 27 books in the 30 years of his writing career while he was alive, from 1971 to 2001, and in the 22 years since then has produced 30 books. Simple arithmetic shows us that Robert Ludlum has been much more productive dead than alive. Think how many books he might have written if someone had killed him in 1971!

The article clearly states that the 30 books in question are by other authors under his name. Honestly, Dr. Boli, there are plenty of genuine examples of Wikipedia haplessness without adding false ones!

Or was the article changed since you wrote this? I suppose it’s possible.

    • Dr. Boli says:

It was not meant as an example of Wikipedia haplessness. It was meant as an example of the way an author’s “brand” can increase in value after his decease. If other writers of conspiracy-based popular thrillers took the example to heart, our entire literary economy might enter a new golden age of prosperity.

Yet, if earlier deceased, the Ludlum brand might not be nearly so brandy as now.  Or, to put it another way, the work he did with a 2001 demise gave him a brandyer brand than he would have achieved with a 1971 expiration.
