Your steel pen musings brought back fond memories of using cartridge fountain pens in high school in the early 1970s. A quick and well-aimed flick of the wrist could apply Jackson Pollock-like indigo spots to any white button-down dress shirt nearby.

Interestingly, a quick search of the internet for cartridge fountain pens shows that there exist left-handed pens. Little did I realize that fountain pens are produced specifically for our sinister brethren.

Coincidentally, I just left a cartridge pen in my pocket, and it stayed there through the wash. I’m in big trouble.

One other thing to appreciate about steel pens is that they do not encourage you to put them in your pocket. The man who invented the pocketable pen cackled himself to sleep every night.
