THE BIG DIG.

N.B.—Dr. Boli has designed this story for beginning readers. It uses a limited, but unpredictable, vocabulary, and is well suited to early reading lessons.

A big dog dug a big hole.

“I will dig to China,” said the dog.

So he dug all day.

He dug all night.

He dug all day the next day.

He dug and dug and dug.

At last he met another dog deep in the hole.

“How are you?” said the dog.

“Fine, thank you,” said the other dog. “How are you?”

“I am digging to China,” said the dog.

“I am digging from China,” said the other dog.
