From DR. BOLI’S ALPHABET OF OCCUPATIONS.

K is for the King,
Who strolls among his elephants
And ponders his irrelevance—
A sorry thing!

Once he ruled the State—
His subjects ever dutiful,
His hundred wives all beautiful—
Proud potentate!

Then he began to see
That every cabinet minister
Thought there was something sinister
In monarchy.

Before he could react,
The state went constitutional,
And wealth went distributional—
Unhappy fact!

Rather than see him dead,
They kept him in his palaces
To dwell on private malices—
A figurehead.

Now he’s a sorry thing
Who strolls among his elephants
And ponders his irrelevance.
All hail the king.
