From DR. BOLI’S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MISINFORMATION,

Second Series.

Romanticism. Scientifically, the proper term for the movement known to art historians as “Romanticism” is “Clinical Depression.”

Are you thinking of running for high public office? You can’t do it without misinformation.

  1. Arthur V. Scientia says:

    Dear Doctor Boli.

Right you are. There is no romance in science only clinical “objective” observations and this is enough to drive any art lover to depression.

Let it be said however the deeper one goes the lighter it becomes and this is enough to lift any art lover out of such depression – enjoy the ride.

  2. On the other hand, this clears up something I’ve been wondering about for a very long time. Why did visual art, which had achieved such high standards of beauty and technique, suddenly go into a downward spiral sometime in the late 19th or early 20th century until it reached its absolute nadir with Jeff Koons being taken seriously? Because Freud and his successors began actually being able to do something about clinical depression. Without a bunch of neuroses and psychoses to channel into their art, artists have been forced to experiment with things like color and mass and shape, rather than using their art to express the inexpressible or, shudder to think, tell stories.

    • Alan Kellogg says:

Actually, the depression comes from contemplating the fact no true artist ever makes a living at his art, only the hacks and frauds who prostitute their art for the dollar.
