  1. RepubAnon says:

    Bart Simpson’s great-great-great-grandfather?

  2. Yes, it is Bart’s ancestor, and the phrase “Sic semper tyrannis” is Latin for “Sic Simpson on the tyrants.”

  3. If I ever manage to perfect my time machine and fulfill my dream of going back 70 million years or so and hunting the infamous Tyrannosaurus Rex, each time I bring one down with my vehicle-mounted heavy machine gun, I will exultantly shout, “Sic Semper Tyrannosaurus”. But of course the first trip with the time machine would be to visit the Great Library of Alexandria with a flatbed scanner and portable generator, so Dr. Boli can finally fill in the few gaps in his personal library.

    • Dr. Boli says:

      Dr. Boli is touched by your consideration. In return he offers you his most valuable possession, which is his pedantry. The tyrannosaur will be much more impressed with your erudition if you shout your battle cry in scrupulously correct Latin: “Sic semper tyrannosauris!” (It’s the dative case, you see.) And, after all, what would be the use of a time machine if not to impress a tyrannosaur with one’s erudition?

  4. Clay Potts says:

    hoc est Aquilínæ quasi frondenti scriptorem?

  5. Dies Irae says:

    @Clay Potts:

    “What is it to the [Philadelphia] Eagles if you write like a palm branch?”
