In Nature’s Image: Chapters on Pictorial Photography, a fine book on art photography from the 1890s, by Washington Irving Lincoln Adams.

    I was having fun coming up with the most American name imaginable given the W. I. initials, only to see that it is, of course, Washington Irving. Prior to this discovery:

    Is that Washington Ichabod Lincoln Adams? Or perhaps Wythe Ingersoll? Wants Independence? Witch-hunt Increase?

    I think Washington Increase Lincoln Adams would be the most broadly American name possible at that time.

    I notice on page 25 that the author with the American-est name ever was a pioneer in the American art form of the split infinitive.
