This reader wants to know: just what IS a dryer sheet for, anyway?

Fortunately the internet has an answer!

bingusprincess420 on reddit tells us: “You don’t need them, they’re terrible for the environment. the only thing I think they’re good for is removing love bugs from your car if you live in florida”

Well, that is very well and good for the love-bug hating residents of Florida, but what are dryer sheets theoretically supposed to do?

Maytag (presumably experts on the situation) informs us that “Dryer sheets balance the positive and negative electrons in your fabrics that cause them to stick together.”

At this point I must pause to comment on this astounding invention of scientific genius, capable of balancing not only the negative, but also the positive electrons in laundry fabrics! Safe, non-radioactive generation of positrons in your dryer purely to keep socks from sticking together, all for the low price of 3¢ per sheet on Amazon.

Truly we live in an age of miracles.
