Studio insiders say that Disney has suspended its planned modern-day reboot of the Apple Dumpling Gang franchise. Filming had already begun, but an Internet petition campaign has been mounted against the title The Apple Crips, which a parents’ organization claims sends the wrong message to young audiences.

I’m still waiting for the gritty reboot of The Incredible Mr. Limpet wherein, instead of using his fish-man abilities to sabotage Nazi shipping, he joins the US Navy trained-dolphin teams in providing underwater patrols to prevent Islamic-extremist saboteurs from attaching limpet mines to docked US Warships at Seventh Fleet HQ in Bahrain.

      Considering that it has one of the highest body counts of any Disney movie (How many submarines and crews were destroyed in that final battle alone?), I don’t know how much grittier it can get.

      You’ve also got the somewhat adult and very cringe-inducing scenes of the female fish trying to tempt him to the spawning grounds.
