ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

On this day in 1901, Annie Edson Taylor (on her sixty-third birthday, in fact) became the first human being to survive the trip over Niagara Falls in a barrel. The experiment was only moderately successful, however, as the proposed barrel-transit link from Buffalo to St. Catharines was never able to attract the requisite investment.
