On this day in 1693, the lesser-known Gloucester witch trials came to an abrupt end when all the judges mysteriously turned into toads.

  1. Nothing mysterious about it! Toads are amphibians. Amphibians undergo metamorphosis. These amphibians were merely changing form. Pure science!

    Some accounts dispute this version of events and insist that the judges were turned into frogs. Serves them right, too.
